FSU Sports Information Excerpts:
The Florida State football team hit the practice fields in full pads on Tuesday. The squad spent 21 periods preparing for the Duke Blue Devils. The Homecoming game will be broadcast live by ESPNU with kick-off set for 8:00 p.m. The Seminoles will wear their "Unconquered" uniforms for just the second time in school history.
After working on field goal and special teams, the Seminoles broke up into position groups. After individual drills the squad worked versus scout teams.
In inside drills both Antone Smith and Jamaal Edwards had some nice gains. The biggest play was turned in by Anthony Houllis however who had a great hit behind the line.
In 1-on-1 Ochuko Jenije had a PBU. It looked like Patrick Robinson did as well but Damon McDaniel stayed with the ball and made the catch. Rod Owens hauled in a juggling catch. After one period, 1-on-1 moved to the goal line. Korey Mangum recorded a PBU. The best play of the period was turned in on a diving TD grab by Richard Goodman.
In pass skel Drew Weatherford hooked up with De'Cody Fagg three times and also hit Preston Parker. Xavier Lee completed passes to Damon McDaniel and Owens. Tony Carter recorded a pass break-up.
In pass rush the defensive line had a good day. Alex Boston, Budd Thacker and Kendrick Stewart all had multiple wins. Everette Brown, Letroy Guion, Justin Mincey and Eli Charles also got sacks. For the offense, David Overmyer won a couple 1-on-1's and Ryan McMahon, Randall Cox, Jacky Claude and Shannon Boatman also help their man from reaching the QB.
The 1:00 offense worked to perfection if not a little too perfect as Weatherford hit Fagg for a TD on the first play. He then came back and got big yardage with a play to Smith.
In goal line the D got off to a good start with a Kendrick Stewart sack but after that Seddrick Holloway and Antonio White both plunged in for TDs. Lee also threw one in.
Head Coach Bobby Bowden
How much has Duke changed on defense this year?
"They still do a lot of it. I don't think quite as much as they did at one time. They still do a lot of blitzing. They are unorthodox. You don't know what they are doing. They will bring up linebackers, they have five linebackers up; they have five corners; five safeties. You have got to know what you are doing or they will have somebody free on you. They give people fits that way.
