The great Yoggi Berra made the classic statement, "This is like deja vu all over again." He prophetically was referring to the ability of FSU to lose games they should not. We have seen this before. The Noles are like the character in Groundhog Day. We keep repeating the same games over and over again.
In October 2006 prior to the Duke game, I wrote the following. "If FSU wins the game against Duke, it will mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. After all, FSU has won all the previous games against Duke by large margins in most cases. This is after all Duke who is 0-5 and who lacks the star athletes that are on the FSU football team." This was after the Noles lost to NC State in a shocker. Sound familiar?
More to the point on Saturday is how will the Noles play. Will they show an intensity that we have rarely seen this year? As I stated in October 2006, "It will be interesting to see how the players react after the huge loss to NC State last week. Hopefully, they will play with enthusiasm, poise, and the desire to show that they are a better team than the record shows. After all, this is what coaching is all about."
I am not sure what kind of character this team possesses. I also am not sure what kind of character the head coach has now. I see someone who seems to love to fingerpoint and not accept any blame for the team failures.
To use William Shakespeare's line in Macbeth, this Duke game is "...full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." If the Noles win, it means absolutely nothing. How we perform and play will be the true test.
