Seventy-four year old state representative Bill Proctor, a former football player and assistant coach at Florida State, will serve as the school's interim athletics director, university president T.K. Wetherell said Friday. He will replace David Hart Jr. when he leaves Dec. 31 until a permanent replacement is selected.
Proctor, who sits on a committee that helps determine state university budgets, will begin working at Florida State on Nov. 5 as a special assistant to Wetherell until Hart leaves. Wetherell said Proctor will immediately begin assuming some of the athletics director's responsibilities including budgeting during the transition. He will not, however, be a candidate for the permanent job, Wetherell said.
