The win by the Noles over Maryland was not only their seventh win for the season but was also Bobby Bowden's 300th win at FSU. "It's something that I am glad has happened," Bowden said in regards to the win, "but those are nice things that happen I guess if you live long enough and coach long enough." It also marked only the second time that a Division I-A coach, along with Penn State's Joe Paterno, reached the 300-win mark at one school
Florida State's 21-6 first-half lead was the largest of the season for the Seminoles and the largest halftime cushion since Nov. 6 of last year when FSU led Virginia 17-0 at the half.
Defensively, the Seminoles had five sacks against Maryland to increase their season total to 25. Saturday's sack count was second only to N.C. State, where FSU finished with a season-high six sacks.
