To probably no one's surprise, Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan was named as the ACC's Player of the Year by a vote of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association. He received 50 of 71 first-place votes. Virginia defensive lineman Chris Long was a near-unanimous selection as defensive player of the year, receiving 69 first-place votes.
Virginia Coach Al Groh was named the Atlantic Coast Conference coach of the year. Groh's team bounced back from a humbling loss to Wyoming to win seven straight games, carrying the Cavaliers to the brink of a division championship. Groh earned 38 of 71 votes in voting from members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association to win the honor for the second time. Boston College's Jeff Jagodzinski, whose team won the Atlantic Division title and reached as high as No. 2 nationally in his first season, finished second with 22 votes.
Wake Forest running back Josh Adams was named the 2007 ACC Rookie of the Year. Adams who is also the league's overwhelming offensive rookie of the year received 51 of a possible 71 votes in balloting conducted by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association. Against FSU this season, Adams rushed for 140 yards and 1 TD.
