There are obviously many FSU-Clemson connections. One connection is Clemson assistant head coach and offensive line coach Brad Scott. Scott served as offensive coordinator of Florida State's National Championship team of 1993. He served as an assistant with the Florida State program from 1983-93, including the 1990-93 era when he was offensive coordinator. Florida State won the National Championship in 1993. He has a master's degree from Florida State in athletic administration, a degree he earned in 1984. He was on the Florida State sideline in 1988 when the Seminoles executed the "Puntrooskie play".
With its season debut against No. 19 Florida State taking place on a Monday night, the Tigers have to fill gaps in the normal game-week routine. To ensure that players stay out of trouble, Tommy Bowden considered putting the team up in a hotel Saturday night as well as Sunday. Instead, he has chosen to hold a Saturday night practice for perhaps no other reason than to occupy their time.
Bobby Bowden commented on the Clemson defense in his weekly conference. “They’ve got a real sound scheme and have enough variation to it that it’s hard to predict what they’re going to do but they have really, the last couple of years, whipped us up front. Pass rush and run defense.”
