On offense: Senior quarterback Kyle Wright leads the ACC in passing efficiency after wrestling the starting job from Kirby Freeman in Week 3. Behind a veteran offensive line, underclassmen tailbacks Graig Cooper and Javarris James trigger the league's third-rated rushing attack. Despite the individual statistical strengths, the Hurricanes rank eighth in the ACC in total offense (339.1 ypg) and seventh in scoring (23.7 ppg).
On defense: Defensive end Calais Campbell and safety Kenny Phillips are the stars on a unit that has struggled with consistency. The Hurricanes have been vulnerable to the pass, yielding 10 touchdown receptions. More troubling, stopping drives has been problematic as opponents are converting 38 percent of third down opportunities and have scored on 14 of 16 trips into the red zone.
On special teams: Forced to replace all of its specialists, Miami has been thoroughly outplayed. Kicker Francesco Zampogna is 9 of 14 on field-goal attempts, while punter Matt Bosher has the league's worst average (36.5). On top of that, the Hurricanes lack the usual breakaway return threat.
