Ranking The ACC Coastal Division Coaches

I thought this might be an interesting exercise which of course has no right or wrong answers-only opinions. So how would you rank the ACC Coastal Division coaches?

Here are my rankings and a short analysis on each:

    1. Frank Beamer- Virginia Tech- I don't even think this is close. Beamer is among the most winningest active coaches having compiled a 143-45 record over the past 15 seasons. In addition, he has won two ACC titles in four seasons.

    2. Butch Davis- North Carolina- The rest get tough but I would put Davis next given his coaching experience at Miami and turning the Canes around plus his NFL experience.

    3. David Cutcliffe- Duke- This is his first year in the ACC but he did coach at Tennessee and was head coach at Ole Miss where he took the Rebels to four bowl games in six seasons there.

    4. Al Groh- Virginia- Groh has been on the hot seat in the past but last year he had a good year going 9-4 record and a berth in the Konica Minolta Gator Bowl. Since taking over as head coach in 2001, Groh has led Virginia to 51 wins and five bowl appearances. He was also named ACC Coach of the Year for the second time in his career.

    5. Paul Johnson- Georgia Tech- This is his first year at Georgia Tech having come from Navy. He did a good job at Navy but it was Navy so we will have to wait and see how he does in the ACC.

    6. Randy Shannon- Miami- Shannon in his first year at head coach was 5-7. The jury is still out as to whether he can be successful as head coach for the Canes.
