More than five years after Devaughn Darling collapsed and died during a Florida State University football practice, the odds of his family recovering $1.8 million in compensation from the Legislature are uncertain.
"We're still spinning our wheels in the same place. It really would be a blessing to get past it," said his mother Wendy Hunter, who appeared at a news conference here on Monday. In happier days, she drove the 13 hours from her Houston home to see Devaughn and his twin brother Devard play at FSU home games.
