FSU Extended A Conditional Bowl Invitation

Bobby Bowden officially received a gift from Emerald Bowl executive director Gary Cavalli this morning – a baseball cap with the game’s logo featuring a football bracketed by the Golden State Bridge.

However, the invitation at the moment was conditional. “I had hoped to make an official announcement today. I had planned to,” said Cavalli. Dave Hart got a call last night from the ACC office asking the bowl to delay the official announcement until such time as Virginia Tech is released by the BCS. They are still being held as a potential at-large team.

Cavalli said that the “conditional agreement” with FSU could become finalized as early as Tuesday during the next teleconference with the BCS committee. It may take a little longer to resolve which Pac-10 team FSU would play in the game. Arizona State’s (7-5, 4-5 Pac-10) 28-14 victory over Arizona Saturday put the Sun Devils into the mix for either the Emerald or Las Vegas bowls. There is a very slim chance that Virginia Tech would get a BCS bowl.
