As University of Miami football fans await word on whether their beloved team will move from the Orange Bowl to Dolphin Stadium, they will have some solace knowing their on-campus athletic facilities are about to significantly improve.
The university has initiated a campaign to raise $75 million over the next three years for all aspects of the athletic program, according to Sergio M. Gonzalez, the vice president for university advancement, who is heading the campaign named ``Sprint for Hurricane Athletics.''
Virginia football coach Al Groh today announced the hiring of Wayne Lineburg, a 1996 UVa graduate, as the Cavaliers new wide receivers coach. Lineburg replaces John Garrett who was recently named tight ends coach for the Dallas Cowboys.
Clemson opened its spring practice season on Saturday with a three-hour practice on the practice fields behind the Jervey Athletic Center. It was the first of 15 spring practices for the Tigers, a schedule that will conclude April 14 with the Spring Game at 1:00 PM at Clemson Memorial Stadium.
The Tigers will practice Monday, Wednesday and Thursday next week before taking off for Spring Break.
"We had a good practice today, "said Bowden, who must replace many leaders off his 2006 team, including first-team All-American Gaines Adams (who attended the practice) All-ACC receiver Chansi Stuckey and quarterback Will Proctor (who attended the practice).
