Noles Near Bottom Nationally In Third Down Conversions

The Noles rank 98 out of 119 major colleges for third down conversions as of 11/03/07. This week's game against Virginia Tech did nothing to help that ranking. It is painfully clear that the Noles are unable to convert third downs with any degree of consistency. The Noles had seven third down attempts with 9 yards or less needed to get a first down. Of the seven third down possessions, three were for only 1, 1, and 3 yards needed to get a first down. Of those three, two were for 1 and 3 yards at the Va. Tech 34 and 28 yard line. FSU did manage a FG on one and was forced to punt on the other.

FSU had four third down conversion attempts at the Virginia Tech 24, 21, 34, and 28. The Noles failed to complete any of those conversions for a first down. The yards needed to get a first down were 9, 9, 1, and 3 yards. They did kick 3 field goals from those four failed conversions.
