    Jacksonville Will Again Host ACC Championship In 2007


    Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford announced today that the conference will extend its agreement to have Jacksonville host the 2007 ACC Football Championship Game on Dec. 1.

    The game will be played in Jacksonville Municipal Stadium (formerly Alltel Stadium) for the third-consecutive year. Florida State defeated Virginia Tech 27-22 in the conference's inaugural football championship game. Wake Forest defeated Georgia Tech 9-6 for the 2006 title.

    Kevin Lempa, a former collegiate defensive coordinator with NFL experience, has been hired as the defensive backs coach at the University of Maryland, head football coach Ralph Friedgen announced today.

    Lempa spent the last four seasons as the secondary coach with Boston College, where he led one of the top units in the Atlantic Coast Conference. He replaces Tim Banks, who took over as defensive coordinator at Central Michigan earlier this month.

    Former University of North Carolina assistant coach Andre Powell said that he will be joining the Clemson University football staff.

    Powell, 39, replaces running backs coach Burton Burns who left earlier this month for a job at the University of Alabama.
