Bama and Gators Suffer Injuries And Hawkins The Wordsmith

Alabama nose guard Brian Motley broke his left ankle and will miss six to eight weeks. Coach Nick Saban said Wednesday that Motley, a redshirt freshman who won the job in spring practice, was hurt in Tuesday's practice. Sophomore Lorenzo Washington will start at nose guard Saturday night against Western Carolina and will be backed up by freshmen.

Starting left tackle Phil Trautwein will miss Florida's season opener against Western Kentucky on Saturday because of a stress fracture in his right ankle, and it's unsure how long the injury will keep the senior on the sideline. On the third day of preseason practice, Trautwein suffered what was believed to be just a sprain. However, the injury grew progressively worse, and UF coach Urban Meyer said he learned late Tuesday night that it was a stress fracture.

Colorado head coach Dan Hawkins is a wordsmith. He revealed this when he was discussing the fact that fullbacks at Colorado are going to get more playing time this season. "They're the ultimate drone in your beehive," Hawkins said after Wednesday's practice. "They're your worker bees."
