Head To Head Matchup: Wide Receiver

Miami wide receiver Darnell Jenkins is the leading receiver for the Canes in 2007. The 5'10" 188 pound senior from Miami has 360 reception yards and is averaging 20 yards per catch. Jenkins has 1 TD which was for 97 yards. Jenkins is an experienced and quick possession receiver and kick returner who was on his way to his finest season in 2006 before suffering a knee injury in the third game Along with Jenkins at receiver is 6'3" senior Lance Leggett with 235 reception yards and 1 TD. His longest TD was for 80 yards. Leggett is described as an extremely talented wide receiver. He had a break-out season in 2006, leading the team's wide receivers in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. He is a nationally-ranked track performer who has gained the confidence needed be a star on the football field. Sophomore Sam Shields is also a threat and has 226 reception yards and 2 TDs on the year.

In the tradition of "Tight End U", 6'5" junior tight end DajLeon Farr who was one of the nation's top-rated tight end recruits in 2005 has 2 TDs and one that went for 33 yards. The receivers probably have something to prove this week. In last week's loss to Georgia Tech, the Hurricanes had only 56 yards receiving and only 22 yards were from the receivers.

On the Nole side, Greg Carr has been the go to receiver for the Noles. Carr has 508 reception yards and 3 TDs. He is averaging 20.3 yards a catch and his longest TD has been for 58 yards. In the last game against Wake Forest, Carr had 8 catches for 108 yards and 1 TD. The receiver that has started to make a big impact is freshmen Preston Parker. Parker in the Wake game had 5 catches and a game high 113 yards receiving and 1 TD. For the year, Parker has 344 yards receiving and 1 TD.

The receiver that continues to be a mystery is 6'3" senior De'Cody Fagg. Fagg has 238 yards receiving and 2 TDs for the year. In the Wake game, he had only 33 yards on 4 catches and no TDs. Against Miami, Carr will probably be double teamed and FSU will have to have several receivers who can catch the ball.

If not Fagg, perhaps Richard Goodman with 111 reception yards and 2 TDs will step up and be another strong receiver for the Noles. The passing yards may be even tougher in that Miami is 26th in the country in pass defense.
