The Noles tackling regressed in the NC State game. The Seminoles had 24 missed tackles against N.C. State, three times more than against Alabama the week before. FSU committed 31 missed tackles against Clemson, 15 against UAB, nine at Colorado and eight against Alabama.
Budd Thacker is saying that he is ready to play. But FSU's sports medicine staff hasn't made a decision yet regarding the defensive tackle's availability for Thursday's game that will be played on an artificial surface. Thacker missed the past two games with a dislocated toe. Starting offensive tackle David Overmyer's status also remains uncertain for Thursday's game after he sprained his knee against Alabama. He did not practice Monday.
Bobby Bowden has indicated that he is pleased with his new coaches. In talking about new coach Rick Trickett, Bowden said, "We still got a ways to go. I think (offensive line coach Rick) Trickett's move to coach his kind of guy, which is a quicker guy, you have to get their weight down to get quicker. Now we must build them up through weights to get stronger. I doubt that we're as strong as we will eventually be. " Bowden went on to say that the offensive line is "... definitely not knocking people out of there.”
