Wake Beats Duke- FSU Is Next This Thursday

Receiver Kenneth Moore rushed for two touchdowns and Wake Forest withstood Thaddeus Lewis' four-TD performance and beat Duke 41-36 on Saturday. Moore caught 11 passes for 100 yards and rushed four times for 84 yards, with scoring runs covering 21 and 53 yards for the Demon Deacons (3-2, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference).

Wake Forest led by 25 and seemed in control after Alphonso Smith returned a third-quarter interception 30 yards for a touchdown, but the Blue Devils rallied. Justin Boyle ran 3 yards for a touchdown and Lewis had TD passes of 2 yards to Eron Riley and 31 yards to Jomar Wright to pull Duke within 34-29 with about 12 minutes left.

Duke's last good chance to take the lead came with 2:51 remaining after Leon Wright returned a punt 26 yards to the Wake Forest 47. Lewis threw four straight incompletions, and Moore took Wake Forest's next snap 53 yards through the right side to push the lead to 41-29 with 2:24 to play.

Lewis threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Austin Kelly with 1:05 left to pull within five, but Delon Lowe recovered the onside kick and the Demon Deacons ran out the clock.

Lewis finished 21-of-47 for 291 yards with two interceptions. He connected with Riley for two of his four scores, but it wasn't enough to help the Blue Devils (1-5, 0-3) avoid their 20th straight loss in the ACC. Duke lost its third straight since it snapped a 22-game losing streak last month.

Riley Skinner completed 22-of-30 passes for 221 yards with an interception, and De'Angelo Bryant and Micah Andrews added short scoring runs for the Demon Deacons, who once again needed a big play in the final minutes to seal a victory over the pesky Blue Devils.

FSU plays Wake Forest at Wake this Thursday.
