Ponder Is Backup QB...More Noles Return To Practice...Last Home Game For Seniors

FSU announced that Christian Ponder will be the backup quarterback to Drew Weatherford on Saturday. Florida State offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher confirmed that Ponder will be his No. 2 quarterback over Xavier Lee. “We'll stay with Ponder right there (at No. 2),” Fisher said. “He played well. That's the way we've done reps (in practice), and that's how we're going to do it.”

Five of the eight players who were forced out of the loss to the Hokies practiced on Wednesday, including RB Antone Smith (left shoulder) and CB Tony Carter (head and groin). Smith received most of the work at tailback and, according to Coach Bobby Bowden, "looked OK." FB Seddrick Holloway has been working at RB along with WR Preston Parker and QB De'Vontrey Richardson.

Saturday's game against Maryland is Senior Day and will be the last home game for Seminole seniors. Senior OL Jacky Claude has started 35 games during his career, more than any other non-kicker on FSU's roster. Offensive lineman David Overmyer will also be playing his last game at home. Besides Overmyer and Claude, FSU's offense features senior starters in receiver De'Cody Fagg and lineman Shannon Boatman. Safety Roger Williams has been the only senior to start regularly on defense. And it will also be the last home game for the kicker known as The Weed", Gary Cismesia. Cismesia has been credited with a team-high 38 starts.
