Coach: Frank Beamer (163-84-2 in 21st season at Virginia Tech; 205-107-4 in 27th season overall).
On offense: Hokies have alternated between QBs Sean Glennon and Tyrod Taylor. Glennon is coming off a 296-yard, two-touchdown performance against Georgia Tech. Virginia Tech's offensive line that has yielded 33 sacks which is the next to last in the ACC behind Duke. Much heralded TB Branden Ore (535 yds, 5 TDs) is off his 1,000-yard pace of a year ago. Veteran WRs Josh Morgan, Justin Harper and Eddie Royal have combined for 75 of 142 team receptions and all but two TD catches. Eddie Royal is questionable for the game.
Key Offensive Stat: The Hokies rank #11 out of 12 ACC teams in total offense.
On defense: Coordinator Bud Foster's unit is as stout as usual, ranking No. 2 in the ACC in total defense (300.3 yards per game) and No. 1 in scoring defense (14.3 points per game). The Hokies boast an excellent cornerback tandem in Brandon Flowers and Macho Harris, who have combined for seven interceptions and 13 pass breakups this season.
Key Defensive Stat: The Hokies are #11 nationally in total defense.
Special teams: First-year K Jud Dunlevy has continued the Hokies' tradition of consistency, converting 13 of 15 field-goal attempts, and P Brent Bowden (42.7-yard average) has been rock solid. Royal has returned two punts for touchdowns this season, but he's fighting a calf injury. Surprisingly, Virginia Tech has blocked just one kick this season.
Key Special Teams Stat: Virginia Tech is #3 in the ACC in field goals completion percentage. They are 13 for 15.
