QB Debate Will Not Go Away

An article in today's Orlando Sentinel details the anger and frustration of Xavier Lee and in particular his father. To quote his father, "I don't understand what's going on."

That can be said for many FSU fans who see a football player that has not been given a fair shot at QB and see another one who has made mistakes after mistakes and is still playing.

As the article indicates Xavier Lee was no ordinary athlete. He was Florida's Mr. Football Award winner in 2003 when he threw for 3,177 yards and 37 touchdowns. He set state career passing records in completions (544),attempts(993),yardage(9,083) and touchdowns(98).

Lee's father is very blunt regarding what he sees as his son being misled by coaches. In the article he states that he had Lee set up to transfer to Bethune-Cookman but the coaches convinced Lee to stay. Stay for promises that will happen in the future. As Wimpie in the Popeye cartoons says,"I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today. "

Supposedly the decision on who to start at QB is solely up to Jimbo Fisher. There are those that believe that Bobby Bowden is still involved in who starts at QB. It is still difficult for those like myself who have watched the Noles for many years to understand why Lee has not been given a real shot at starting. Bowden points to practice but he and others also said that De'Cody Fagg looked great in practice. And we all know what Fagg has done on the field.

I have serious doubts whether Lee will ever be given the shot he deserves. Some say that it is Bobby Bowden being stubborn as he was regarding his son. For whatever the reasons, the debate will continue.
