Wednesday Practice Report: Getting Ready for Virginia

    NOTES
    * The Seminoles practiced for 20 periods in shells (helmets, shoulder pads and shorts)

    * Florida State leads the series against Virginia by a 12-2 margin. Seminole head coach Bobby Bowden is 14-2 against the Cavaliers with two victories coming when he was the head coach at West Virginia.
    * Linebacker Buster Davis is one of only three candidates for each of the following four National Defensive Player of the Year Awards -- Bednarik, Butkus, and Lombardi Awards as well as the Lott Trophy.

    QUOTES

    Head Coach Bobby Bowden

(on the work that Drew Weatherford got in at Practice today)

"Yes, he took some reps; we didn't let him get into that last 11 on 11 but he took some reps. We let Xavier work with the first group and he worked with the second."

(on the progress that Cismesia has made from the preseason to being announced as a semifinalist for the Lou Groza award as the Top Collegiate Kicker)

"Yeah, yes he has [come a long way] and had a good year. And he is on the watch list? Good."

    Junior kicker Gary Cismesia

(on frustration of wondering where the kick in the Maryland game might have gone)

"Yeah it is frustrating because it is one that I hit and it was solid. It's not like I thought I hit it bad, you know, I thought I hit it good but it's just how it turns out."

Sophomore defensive back Michael Ray Garvin

(on whether or not he is starting at boundary cornerback and the difference between starting and coming off the bench)

"Yeah, I'm starting at boundary cornerback. It's just the same as every game; just go out there and play."

(on what he has done to get the coaches to feel as though he has earned the job rather than someone else losing it)

"Basically just working hard at practice and staying focused."

(on whether going against Greg Carr in practice has prepared him for going against Virginia's tall receivers)

"I mean yeah, kind of. Greg is a good wide receiver so you know going against him is good work."
