    No Celebration For Refs

There were turkeys this week. Let's not forget that the ACC's Maryland was beaten by Middle Tennessee State. However, my Turkey of The Week goes to the officials calling the BYU-Washington game. And of course the old fogeys at the NCAA who implement stupid rules.

Washington QB Jake Locker was penalized for celebrating what could have been a game-tying touchdown run with 2 seconds left. However, after the penalty was assessed, BYU's Jan Jorgensen blocked the 35-yard extra-point attempt to help the Cougars hold on to a 28-27 victory Saturday.

After scoring the touchdown, Locker threw the ball into the air after scoring the TD. He was assessed a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty under the so called celebration rule.

This is a blatant example of overkill. This stupid rule was implemented years ago because of the Miami teams who blatantly celebrated in an unsportsmanlike manner. However, we now have old guys who want to dampen any enthusiasm and hide behind "the rules are the rule."

Here's a news flash for these guys. Every call you make is a judgment call. This was outrageous and stupid. We are now left with players virtually not being allowed to show any excitement for their efforts or their team.
