Head To Head Matchup: Running Back

It is difficult to know who will be the premier running back for the Catamounts this year but in their first game it was redshirt junior Jayson Williams. Williams took a redshirt as a scholarship athlete his freshman season in 2005 at Central Florida as a running back before spending the next two seasons with limited action as a reserve defensive back and on special teams. The 6-1 220 lb. running back is now playing for Western Carolina nd in his first game against Shorter, Williams led all rushers with 90 yards on 14 carries and his first Catamount TD.

For the Catamounts, the tailbacks from a season ago are gone. Four newcomers will compete for the starting job so there will probably be a see saw battle to see who wil land on top for the season.

For the Noles, will this be the year for Antone Smith? Bobby Bowden had predicted a 1,000 yard year for Smith in 2007 but that did not happen. This year there are no predictions but the expectations are high for Smith. He fell short of the 1,000 yard mark rushing as he ran for 819 yards and 3 TDs. He is said to have a new attitude and ready to prove how good he can really be.
