The Tallahassee Democrat under a public records request to FSU discovered that the Jeff Bowden payoff amount is unprecedented at FSU. As the Democrat found,"When Jeff Bowden agreed last month to a severance amount of $537,000 to step down as Florida State's offensive coordinator, it doubled the amount head basketball coach Steve Robinson received after the 2002 season when he was fired."
Up until the Bowden payoff, Robinson's was the largest settlement between FSU and a coach this decade. Robinson received a one-time check for $260,000 from Seminole Boosters, Inc. FSU's official but independent fundraising group will pay Jeff Bowden $107,400 annually beginning in August from concession/Coca Cola revenue.
Dave Hart had said at the time that “It's not unusual, not unprecedented." Hart could not be reached Monday evening after the story appeared in the Democrat.
