    Nole Bowls: 1967 Gator Bowl

1967 Gator Bowl, Jacksonville, Fl., FSU 17 Penn State 17

This was only FSU's second appearance in the Gator Bowl and resulted in the equivalent of kissing your sister. The coach for FSU was the great Bill Peterson and the Penn State coach was none other than Joe Paterno.

Penn State scored all its 17 points in the first half while FSU drew a blank. It was all FSU in the second half as FSU QB Kim Hammond threw for almost 400 yards in the game. FSU receiver Ron Sellers scored on a 20 yard pass from Hammond and ended the day with 145 yards in receptions. FSU QB Kim Hammond was the Most Valuable Player for FSU. Hammond still holds the Gator Bowl record for most attempts and completions (38-55).
