Tom D'Angelo of the Palm Beach Post says that for the for the second straight season, Florida State’s best player was left off the All-ACC first team.This season, that player didn’t even make second team. "Linebacker Lawrence Timmons was the Seminoles’ best player this season. I know Buster Davis had more tackles and certainly talked a much better game but if anybody deserved to be first team, it was Timmons."
The St. Pete Times reports that coach Bobby Bowden hasn't been to northern California with Florida State, but next month's trip to San Francisco for the Emerald Bowl won't put him in foreign territory. "As the coach at West Virginia, Bowden took the Mountaineers to that part of the country three times: a 20-10 loss to California in Berkeley; a 41-35 loss at Stanford in 1972; then a memorable 28-10 win at Cal in 1975."
Brian Dohn of the Los Angeles Daily News talks about UCLA's upcoming game with its rival USC. He states, "Now, after a few years of watching and learning what it takes to become the best, the Bruins said they are ready to take down the best, and jump-start their own march to becoming one of the top programs in the nation. "
Steve Ellis in The Tallahassee Democrat talks about the offensive coordinator search at FSU. He comments that "FSU Athletic Director Dave Hart said he has been a part of the process but will leave the final decision to Bobby Bowden."
The Florida Times Union reports that the tickets to the ACC Championship game are short of the projected sales." Overall tickets distributed as of Friday afternoon are just over 60,000, leaving around 13,000 remaining. Gator Bowl Association Rick Catlett said earlier this week that sales would have to be around 65,000 or more for the best chance of having the game return to Jacksonville for two more years."
