Georgia Tech freshman Jonathan Dwyer, who rushed for 138 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries Saturday in the Yellow Jackets' 69-14 win over Samford, was named ACC Rookie of the Week the league office announced today. Dwyer's rushing total was the fifth-largest single game mark ever for a Georgia Tech freshman and the fourth-most ever by a true freshman in school history.
Virginia tight end Tom Santi has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in lifting the Cavaliers to a 24-13 win over Duke on Saturday. With the win the Cavaliers evened their record at 1-1 this season. Santi led the team in receiving with six receptions for 54 yards and two touchdowns in the Cavaliers' 11-point win. Four of his six catches resulted in either a touchdown or first down.
Clemson quarterback Cullen Harper was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Back of the Week after leading the Tigers to a 49-26 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday. Harper, a junior from Alpharetta, Ga., completed 20 of 26 passes on Saturday for 270 yards.With five touchdowns, he set a new Clemson record, including four in the first-half, another school record.
Boston College linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar has been named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week, the league has announced. Dunbar, a senior from Syracuse, N.Y., had eight total tackles, including four solos, and returned an interception 14 yards for a touchdown in the Eagles' 37-17 win over North Carolina State. The interception return was his second for a touchdown. In all, he has four interception or fumble returns for touchdowns.
