* The Atlantic Coast Conference has awarded its future Football Championship Games to Tampa and to Charlotte, John Swofford, the Commissioner of the ACC, announced Wednesday. Swofford announced that the league has awarded its football title game to Tampa for the 2008 and 2009 seasons and to Charlotte for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
The decision was reached unanimously Wednesday morning on a conference call of the league's athletics directors and faculty athletics representatives which culminated a seven-month bid and selection process which began last June. Jacksonville had hosted the first three conference championships but had been experiencing declining attendance in the last two years.
* The search for a head coach at Duke is still on. A day after Vanderbilt coach Bobby Johnson and former UCLA coach Karl Dorrell interviewed for the Duke football job, Vanderbilt University sent out a statement that said Johnson had removed his name from consideration. Dorrell's name is still in play for the job.
