ACC Opposition Honors: Boston College

For the first time since Boston College joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2005, three of its football players have received ACC Player of the Week honors in the same week, representing half the awards announced today.

Place-kicker Steve Aponavicius was named Rookie of the Week. Aponavicius, who had never played in a football game before (college or high school), was a perfect two-for-two on field goals in Thursday's 22-3 win over 17th-ranked Virginia Tech. In addition to making good on both of his field goal attempts (from 20 and 36 yards), the Easton, Pa., native made both of his extra point attempts as the Eagles won for the fifth time in six outings.

Offensive guard Josh Beekman was named Offensive Line Player of the Week. Beekman led an offensive line effort that gave up no sacks and paved the way for Eagle quarterback Matt Ryan to throw for two touchdown passes. The Amsterdam, N.Y., senior is the team's tri-captain and was a second-team All-ACC selection in 2005.

Linebacker Jolonn Dunbar was named Defensive Line Player of the Week. Dunbar played a major role defensively in the Virginia Tech game, registering eight tackles and coming up with a key interception, which he returned for 31 yards to the Hokie 27-yard-line to set up the first Aponavicius field goal.
