What They Are Saying About the FSU-Maryland Game

"The struggling Seminoles encounter a Maryland team that is playing with new confidence, bolstered by back-to-back victories over Virginia and North Carolina State.

Last season, the Terrapins looked as if they would make it two in a row over Florida State until the Seminoles rallied to win, 35-27. Some players are using that game as proof that the gap between the programs is closing.

"I think we're getting better at playing them," Bolston said. "It's definitely not like Florida State automatically beats us."

"Florida State expects Maryland to try to run at them. But to the extreme in which the Terrapins did in a victory against North Carolina State last week?
Of Maryland's 50 offensive plays, just nine were passes. Quarterback Sam Hollenbach threw to his wide receivers just four times. Two were caught. Of its 37 first-and-second down plays, Maryland attempted passes five times. Four were for completions."

"Tough tests on the road, like the one expected from Maryland, will help FSU’s younger players gain needed experience for the future. In 2007, FSU is away from Doak Campbell Stadium seven times, including once against Alabama in Jacksonville.

Next year’s road slate also includes trips to Colorado, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Boston College and Florida.

FSU offensive coordinator Jeff Bowden and the rest of the Seminoles’ coaching staff were somewhat surprised as well as pleased with how the team responded in practice this week. The Seminoles were focused and the expected bleak outlook was nowhere to be found. "
