    Inside FSU Football

Bobby Bowden admitted Wednesday that while he still feels the same when he walks out onto the practice field with his players, other parts of his job these days are not what they used to be.

"Has a lot of the fun been taken out of it?" he said. "Yes, there's no comparison to when I came in 31 years ago, now to then in regard to the media knowing everything that's going on and then being so critical, which I think is stimulated through our e-mails and things like that. The style is different. It takes a little fun out of it."

After coaches suggested earlier in the week that backup QB Xavier Lee wasn't being consistent enough in practice, Bowden said Wednesday night that the former Seabreeze star "threw better today than I have seen him throw in a while."

"I hope it's a good sign," he added.

Starting S Roger Williams (shoulder stinger) and LB Geno Hayes (sprained knee) have been limited in practice this week, working out in no-contact jerseys.

Both said Wednesday that they were held out primarily as a precaution and expected to start against Duke this Saturday.

Williams, who experienced some numbness during the NC State game, was also wearing a protective collar inside his shoulder pads to prevent further nerve damage.

FSU is auctioning one of the all-black tribute jerseys that will be worn during the Oct. 21 Boston College game. The auction, which opens today at www.seminoles.com, will benefit a scholarship fund for a student member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
