Virginia Tech under head coach Frank Beamer has been known for its special teams play. However,this year the tide has turned somewhat. The Hokies have given up three punt returns for scores this season which is more than any Tech team since the 1950s.
In addition to special teams play, the Hokies in their loss to Boston College last Saturday managed a season-low 240 total yards. Virginia Tech has gone over 300 only twice in seven games . The Hokies now rank 110th nationally in total offense out of 120 schools.
The Hokie loss to Boston College marked the first loss for Tyrod Taylor in 10 starts as a college starting quarterback. Taylor was 12-for-26 passing for 90 yards, with one interception. He also ran the ball 15 times for a game-high 109 yards.
